History of the Palynostratigraphy and Paleobotany Laboratory (CICYTTP)

It was created in April 2010 after the incorporation of Dr. Mercedes di Pasquo to the CICYTTP in Diamante, with the PROGRAM OF SUBSIDIES FOR THE CHANGE OF PLACE OF WORK AND RADICATION OF RESEARCHERS OF CONICET (Res. President No. 337, 4/5/2010 and Res. Funding D1806 (15-07-2010) of the type Other). She was transferred from the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences (Universidad de Buenos Aires, CABA), where she was a teacher in the Geology, Biology and Paleontology (1987-2008), fellowship (1994-2001) and researcher CONICET and Deputy between 2002-2010) in the Department of Geology.

The laboratory of palynological processing consists of a system for gas extraction hood and a washing tower where the gases are neutralized to be released as oxygen to the atmosphere. This way it has an ecological system developed especially at the request of Dr. Di Pasquo, to avoid environmental contamination, possibly unique of its type that works in a laboratory of Palinology in Argentina. The research cabinet has a Leica microscope with video camera (14 Mp) and fluorescence LED equipment, and a trinocular loupe with camcorder (3Mp).

The laboratory has fossil collections of Paleobotany, Invertebrates and Paleo Pollen Collections of Reference Species (current) and others of Aeropalinology and Paleopalinology (di Pasquo and Silvestri, 2014).

As head of the Laboratory and working group, Mercedes di Pasquo develops various research tasks detailed in research lines.

Paleoforest studies of the Fanerozoic of America: Devonian-Permian from Argentina, Bolivia, Peru and Brazil, Devonian and Carboniferous from Montana (USA), Cretaceous from the Neuquén Basin (Patagonia) and Argentina Antarctica, Cretaceous to Pleistocene from Colombia, Rivers.

Palynological study of the current flora in the El Palmar National Park (Entre Ríos, Argentina), and its application to the vegetative changes in the Late Holocene
